GAME PLAY Combat Mechanics

Combat results are represented by kills and wounds on living units and damage to Mech units. Kills can only be recovered during a battle by using the Recruit button while adjacent to a friendly town, castle, or tower hex. Wounds can be recovered at any time by left-clicking on the Rest button. Repairing damage to Mech units requires rescuing a particular specialist named Niels the Engineer from the clutches of the Shadowlord. Once Niels hasjoined your staff (he does not fight), Mech units are repaired using the Rest button. Recruiting or resting causes magical effects to expire, raises morale to full, and removes broken status by restoring morale. Adjacent enemy units, however, limit the amount of morale that a resting unit may recover.

Some units are in fact single individuals who are immune to kills. This includes all of the Heroes that may wish tojoin your army. Units that are individuals are indicated by the phrase "A Single Entity" appearing on the unit description screen. These units need only use the Rest option to recover all wounds. Heroes and units with the "Heroic" special ability always use their full number of attacks, regardless of the number of wounds they have accrued.
